Transferring from Community College

Hi everyone,

I am currently studying engineering (electrical to be specific) at the Community College of Rhode Island. I am currently in my sophomore year and I am planning to transfer by Fall 2015. CCRI has an agreement with the University of Rhode Island, and basicly I know for sure I will be accepted. I currently have a GPA of 3.87. I am wondering do I have any chance being accepted at a better school than URI around me. I was thinking maybe UConn, UMass or Penn State or if you have any other college in mind. The problem for me is that money is an issue, I don’t want to waste $75 applying for every single school, also even if I get accepted I’ll need a decent scholarship to be able to attend as I can’t pay $30,000 out of state tuition. What do you think? Should I give any of there schools a shot? Or is URI a decent school? I don’t know if this might change anything, but I am a US citizen, but I lived my entire life outside the states until I turned 18. I lived between Kuwait and Syria and graduated high school from Syria, and had to leave because of the war. Could this help me get into a school or get a scholarship? Do you think I have any chance being accepted at Brown or should I just save the application fee?

I know I am asking a lot of question, but do you know how I can get a common app fee waiver, my advisor at school told me that he only does it for URI and RIC (Rhode Island College).

Thank you very much in advance.

Use the net price calculator on the web sites of each of the schools to get an estimate of financial aid at each school.

URI has ABET accreditation in electrical (and various other) engineering, so you can be assured of a good quality program there.

When you submit an app to UMass you can request a fee waiver from the school so you might as well apply.
