Transferring from CSULB to UCLA

hi guys,

First of all, good day to all.

I major in Art at CSULB, which was the reason I went to long beach, and I would like to transfer to possibly UCs.

What must be done in order to transfer to UC? I have never done any transferring,
I came straight to CSULB from high school.

I wasn't ever thinking of transferring, so I have never prepared for it.
I took classes based on my Major at CSULB, and didn't do the best because I wasn't going to transfer. (current GPA:3.2) and only got to finish up to sophmore year (I had to work to make tuition money for I pay myself so I went on edu. leave for 3 semesters so far)

I really have no idea what to begin with.

Can I continue my Art major here and transfer to UC?
Can I transfer as Art major and change major?
Is UCLA Art impact major?
Or Must I start from CC and spend 2 years and transfer to UC?
I really do not mind to start all over from CC if it must be done to fulfill my needs.

It's been long time since I became college student (I am 22 years old), but I don't mind going to school for long time as long as I do what I want to do.

I would really appreciate any of your advices.

Thank you, have a wonderful day people.

UCLA art is not impacted. The average accepted GPA for UCLA Art from transfer in 2010 was 3.55, which is quite a bit above your GPA.

If you are serious about transferring to a UC, you will need to transfer to a CC first. CSU to UC transfers are virtually impossible, especially if your GPA is lower than the average accepted. However, because you have attended a 4 year university in the past, there will be a limit on the number of units you can transfer to a UC.

One thing you can’t do is “start over”. Your record will follow you wherever you go.

And as for changing major, that is dependent on the college/school’s policies. At UCLA, you can switch into most majors, but not all.

mmsiphone// Thank you for your reply, I have few more question followed by your answers. 1.Transfer to CC: does this mean, I have to take some kind of offical procedure to “transfer” to a cc? or can I just be a discontinued student and take courses at cc(according to my school admission, I am allowed to take courses from other school when I am discountinued student) 2.What do you mean by having a limit on the numbers of unit I can transfer to a UC? who would be the best person or associate to get advices from??

Just apply from CSULB. Make sure you meet all pre req requirements. And since your GPA is below the average, you better spend a lot of time on your statement. But yeah go for it.

With a major like Art your portfolio would probably be much more important than your GPA. If your work shows you are obviously a very talented artist with even greater potential for the future and want to study Art at UCLA, all the stuff about it being impossible to transfer from a CSU to a UC probably goes out the window. The Art faculty at UCLA probably cares much more about artistic ability than where you are transferring from. It is almost like athletes, if you are uncommonly talented they will find a way to admit you.
