So September 2010, I started my 1st quarter at De Anza community college (quarter system). I finished my first quarter with a 3.52 GPA, and 16 units completed (90 needed to transfer).

West Valley community college is much, much closer to my house, and I've been thinking of transferring there. West Valley is a SEMESTER system.

De Anza begins classes again tomorrow, but West Valley doesn't start their new semester for another month.

Anyways, what steps would I need to take to transfer? Worth it or not?

Thanks in advance everyone, and Happy New Years!

It should be no problem at all to transfer, and semester colleges know all about how to recalculate credits from quarter colleges (and vice-versa). Go to West Valley with an official transcript from De Anza and ask the Registrar for a transcript evaluation. That evaluation will tell you exactly what you have and what you will need to complete an Associates degree (assuming that is what you want before you transfer to a 4-year institution).

Of course, it would have been better to figure this out a little sooner.

Kinda last minute huh? Did you already register for classes starting tomorrow? Unless they are in the afternoon and you can go to the other school first and get things squared away really easily it might be kinda tough to get it all worked out.

Are you just wanting another month of vacation from school? This sounds like the kind of thing I used to come up with to get out of going back to school!

FA might be messed up with this too. Assuming you get some.

But I think you can just register at the new place if that’s what you really want. I mean at CC’s you basically just walk in, maybe a take a placement test, and are good to go. It’s all the other stuff like getting credit for classes already taken and FA that might be tough.
