I'm really interested in applying to UCLA or Cal as a transfer next year, but I'm coming from Wellesley, and I've heard that transferring from an out of state college in incredibly difficult. Can anyone give me some advice as to whether it's even worth it to fill out the paperwork?

GPA: 3.7
SATs: 1410/2210
EC's: I teach an SAT prep class for low income high school students (Head Verbal Coach), and I also take part in a literacy program where I help at risk kindergartners learn how to read. I'm interested in eventually pursuing a career in educational law, and this summer I will be interning at a law firm to help gain some exposure.

You could definantly try. It's very selective for the high ranking UC's to select out of state transfer students since priority transfer is mainly given to community college students first for admissions. But don't let that get you down, if you really want to go then go ahead and try anway (what's there to lose?). At least a hundred people are accepted from both Cal and UCLA that are from out of state. SAT's and High School GPA is not required when it comes to transfer admissions towards the UC's.

Thank you! I think I am going to apply, because you're right, you never know what could happen.

Wellesley is a wonderful school, but it's just too small and feels stifling to me. If I ended up not being able to transfer to a "dream school," though, I wouldn't have a problem staying. The academics are amazing; it's just not the best fit for me.

I'm not a CA resident, which makes me nervous as well haha. I'm applying to a ton of California schools, though ( I fell in love with USC senior year and my visit only cemented it, but Wellesley swayed me in the end). The best of luck to you! I wish I would have realized I would want to transfer out of Wellesley just a little earlier so I could have filled out applications this year :(

oh hay we're the same person. I'm a CA resident but applying from NYU, 3.73 gpa, pretty good ECs (paid intern at a literary agency, job at bookstore, other related internships). and similar SATs too! LET'S SEE WHAT HAPPENS, eh?

You probably couldn't have done it this year--you need 60 units minimum to be eligible, which usually means at least two years at another school before you can be enrolled. I'm an English and Classics double major--the app isn't that difficult, actually, I wouldn't sweat it too much : ) I don't have any idea what affect not being a resident has--you'd think that right now they'd be grateful for the OOS tuition!

I currently go to an OOS college, but I'm a CA resident. It is true that it's harder for us because CA CC's have a contract with the UC's, so those students are top priority.

likeawillow, I already applied for this fall! and yeah, I'm an English major. It'll be like I'm your guinea pig (though the results may not be too pleasing...).

and @ getyourownbox--competition! just kidding. what major are you applying for and what's your gpa (kinda rude of me to ask, but I'm freaking out over here)? NYU is so expensive...

God I wish I were a CA resident. In state tuition is so beautiful. Even if I do transfer, I'm going to be paying the same tuition as Wellesley lol

no worries. 3.7 with 3.7 economics major gpa. not that great but whatevz.

don't freak out. granted, our chances aren't that great, but what's done is done. heh.. i like it here so i'm very glad my "worst case scenario" is staying here at NYU.

wow i guess i’m not the only one
I’m also applying to cal from virginia
gpa approx 3.9
first 25 credits 3.4
rest of 70ish credits 4.0 with one Ef (repeated with an A tho)
