transferring from private school, to community college, to UC Davis

Hey all--

I suppose I'm somewhat of an interesting case. Out of high school I attended Lake Forest College, a private school in Illinois, and received average-to-decent marks--a 2.9 average. After my third semester I transferred to Diablo Valley College, a community college in California. I'm in my second semester here and will be attending for spring, but for fall 2009 I hope to go to attend UC Davis.

What are my chances of being admitted as a political science major? At the end of this semester, I presume my average GPA (for DVC, I'm not sure how they'll average the separate school GPA's together) will be a 3.4 or 3.55. I've taken almost all of the requisite courses for UC transfer and I've stacked next semester with the final required course and the remainder of the poly-sci pre-reqs (will this look bad? will my waiting till the last minute in regard to these courses be looked down upon?)

One last question: do UCs, and more specifcally, UC Davis, factor in the personal statement? My counselor says that they don't, but I don't necessarily trust him.

So, uh, I guess the lingo is: "chance me."

Thanks in advance!
paris.is.stale is online now

Did you get a TAG agreement w/ UCD? Then your transfer is guaranteed to UCD. Your counselor is correct, UCD does not factor in personal statements for transfer students

how do you know that they dont factor in personal statements? are you just guessing

Not a guess, the adcom at UCD told me, also when we had a transfer workshop a year ago, another rep from UCD came and confirmed what the adcom said so both came from UCD reps....
"UCD Admissions" might be able to comment on this thread if it's still the policy ... thanks

yeah, that'd be nice.

and no, I did not sign a tag agreement. I was told I was ineligible due to my acquiring so many units from a private institution.

yea, ucdavis DOESNT even peek at the personal statement.

paris.... pm me when you get a chance...my husband was in the same situation as you last year... he ended up going to Berkeley but before that he wanted to go to Davis and had exceeded the unit cap, everything turned out ok for both schools though

Personal statements are always read... they just do not play a role in your admissions. It's read to determine your eligibility for scholarships as well as answer any "questions" they may have about your academic history. You only have to do it once so you might as well do it well.

does anyone know if my GPA is sufficient for acceptance?

bump it up!
