Hi,
I am applying for transfer from a CA community college to the UC's in the fall of 2008 for the 2009-2010 school year. More specifically, I would like to know the probabilities of getting accepted at UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCD, and UCI. PLEASE ONLY ADVISE IF YOU HAVE SOME EXPERIENCE ON THE TOPIC. I am also applying to UCR and CSU Fullerton as safeties.

Units:
74.00 W/ 2 more semesters before transfer (When I transfer, I will be a junior right?). I should also note I will be completing more major prerequisites for a variety of schools in these next two semesters. I have gone three years to a cc now.

GPA:
3.44 (with 5 W's ouch!, I know?!?) (I also got on the Dean's List 3 times, is that an award, and should it be mentioned in my application?) (this low GPA is somewhat a result of my changing my major form Chem to poli sci after my first semester, and because I think i am depressed or have ADD or something).

Here is my rough transcript from community college:

Note-The transcript reads course, units, then grade. Tu300 is a 0 unit class that allows a student at my community college to receive free tutoring and use the computer lab computers. I also received many units from my AP classes and have completed the IGETC (I think!).

Awards: Employee of the Month(Albertsons), Store Safety Maintenance Award (Albertsons), Chemistry Award (High School), Scholar Athlete (High School), Deans List 3 times( is deans list an award?).

EC's: Children of the American Revolution (In high school/Volunteering/Historical and Genealogical Organization), Cross Country (Soph in high school), Tutoring (In high school).

Work: Albertson's Cashier and then Round Table Pizza Clerk. 30 hours per week.

Other: I am really concerned about my personal statement, because I do not have much to say that is relevant or current or positive. For the past three years, I have basically just gone to school, worked, worked out, and spent the rest of my time alone in my room completing assignments, playing video games, or sleeping.

Thats about all I can think of. I look forward to your replies, and thank you for your time.

---bump---

So you're intended major is Poli Sci? How many prereqs have you've completed? I'm not sure if I have any "experience". but what I would say:

UCB: Reach
UCLA: Reach
All others: Match

Your chances increase if in fact you have completed all your pre-reqs. Also, I'd retake that calculus course though to raise your GPA. You'd probably get more responses if you bold important information like intended major, major prep GPA, etc...

Are you TAP certified?

How about TAG for UCI/ UCSD

If your major is poli sci at UCLA and UCB they will both be reaches for you with that GPA.

Your personal statement needs to be good for both of those.

UCSD and UCI and UCR have guranteed transfer admission contracts.

no, i am not enrolled, or part of, any assistance program, and I believe I can probably write an exceptional essay. Also, are the dean's list memo things awards? Should I mention them on the awards section of the uc application, or does it even matter? Finally, i am a political science major.

well you should go and get yourself into the TAG and TAP programs. They will gurantee you spots for UCR, UCI , UCSD and greatly increase your chances for UCLA (TAP) and offer you the option of an alternate major.

I think everyone on here has been on the deans list more than once, you can mention it, sure why not, also mention you are in the honor society if you are (i did).

Poli Sci is a bit competative . UCLA admit rate for poli scie is about 54 percent with average gpa of 3.56

Ws do not matter, you can have 100 of them, it still will not matter. ( I had 19)

LOL! Are you serious! I was considering commiting suicide or something. I thought five W's meant I was dead meat.

Also, concerning the classes i dropped this summer, i would have earned B's in both of them. Was withdrawing from them a good idea, because it did save my gpa somewhat, and I do not even need those classes.

However, it was dissapointing because I did spend a great deal of time reading and doing the work.

Finally, one of my W's was the result of finding out i had alreadty received credit for a class becaUSE OF an AP Exam, and I dropped it as a result. Why take a class you already have credit for? Perhaps there is some way i could get it removed.

Getting it removed depends on your CC- i took a class i did not need to take and no one removed it.

In either case- it does not matter. There is space though to explain stuff like that on the Application if you want. You can just state- enrolled in XYZ but withdrew due to having AP credit for course XYZ.

Dropping classes that you do not need- do you mean ones that do not transfer? or just ones not for IGETC or Major?

If the course does not transfer it is not looked at, even if you got an A or an F in it. Will not matter. The non transferables and the W's are crossed out and not looked at .
