Transferring from State U to CC

Hi,

I attended a state U this past school year and actually applied to out of schools in hopes of transferring because none of my state's Us offer the major I need. I was accepted to a few. Unfortunately, our family took a rather abrupt financial 180.

Now, however, I don't want to transfer because I simply cannot afford it. I was declined from nearly every student loan lender out there (and yes, I had a cosigner). But my mother is forcing me to go and accept "a form of generosity" from one of her friends who is willing to loan us the money interest free.

I really really don't want to go to this route because this friend of hers has been very emotionally and mentally destructive to my mother, and I don't want her to think that she has bought my family because I accepted her "help".

I proposed to my mother that I could stay in community college for one year (I have a scholarship from high school that pays off tuition for any in state school I attend) and work full-time to start paying off the student loan debt I had accrued from the 1st year of college. Also, this time can help my family become financially stable again and perhaps I can transfer. If anything, I will just go back to state U, do some other major. My mother says she will want to talk this over with me.

Am I being realistic here? I'm looking for some points I can use in my argument to stay at home and go to the CC for one year instead of jumping into a puddle of student debt.
