Transferring help

Hi, To get straight to the point, I just finished my first year in college and I ended up with a 1.8 GPA. I got on academic probation and I know that I've done extremely bad during the year. I want to transfer out to a school out in NY because I dont like my college at all "Umass Dartmouth". I was wondering what are the best options to take to transfer to a school such as "baruch" considering the fact that my GPA is so low.

The reality is that most 4-year colleges want to see potential transfer students on an upward trend and having already “fixed” their gpa problems before accepting them as a transfer student at their institution. Baruch wants a 2.7 as a minimum gpa for transfer students, but often what is a reported minimum is just a starting place and the real gpa needed to get accepted is much higher. (You’ll have to research that gpa threshold as I do not know what that might be.)

Your options are to stay at your current university and raise your gpa (then transfer or perhaps stay and graduate there) OR to find a community college you can attend to raise your gpa and then transfer.

thank you for replying,

so do you think that it would be a faster process if i were to attend a community college??

because my main goal is to transfer as fast as possible, i really do not like the college i attend as I have to commute 40 mins back and forth and etc etc.

Speed relates to how soon your gpa is rehabilitated, which relates to how many units you can take with high grades. You need to compare and decide where you can take a full load and get good grades. That can work at either place (assuming your CC has space). Often CC is a lot cheaper which is a reason to go that route.
