I was accepted as a transfer to Stony Brook for the Fall 2015 semester. I have received an orientation date in June, and I have been told that that’s when chem & calculus department advisers will be looking at course descriptions & syllabus for course evaluations. But, I want to know if my general chem courses that i took at a CUNY will transfer over fine/be accepted and i would be able to register for organic chem classes for the fall even before my orientation date… is this possible?
Yes – good question. You can see the course equivalencies at http://stonybrook.edu/transfer – the link is on the left.

For a current student, do grades taken at other colleges get transferred as well (therefore included in gpa) or just the credits?
All the classes that I took at my previous school, including the General Chemistry courses, seem to have exact equivalents here at Stony Brook. So, these class equivalencies won’t change by June and I’d be able to register for upper level Chemistry courses?
Also, the English class that I took at my previous school equates to WRT 102 at Stony, but I read that transfers get placed into WRT 102 directly if they received a C or higher in an English class in their previous institution… so does my course equivalency count and will I be exempt from taking WRT 102?
@mamsama - Yes, that should be correct. As long as you have the equivalents of CHE 131-134 here, then you can proceed past them. And yes, if you have a WRT 102 equivalent – and most transfers do – then won’t need to take that here.
