I am currently transferring into cal poly for fall 2011 and I REALLY want to get in. I have a 2.93 GPA, but a ton of work and community service hours, and EVERY class that I could possibly take from Cuesta to transfer into cal poly under communication studies. What are my chances? Has anyone gotten into that major before?

If you’re talking about Cal Poly SLO, which I assume you are because you mentioned Cuesta… then I honestly don’t give you that great of a chance. Cal Poly is EXTREMELY competitive. If you followed the selection criteria page then you might have somewhat of a chance, but your GPA is not very good.

The classes under Courses (especially the bold) are extremely important in their admissions decisions.

I have a 4.0 after 59 units and I’m an English major. My counselor (a few actually) told me I had a very little chance of getting in because there were two of those classes that I didn’t take that are listed on that page. Not only is GPA important at Cal Poly but from everywhere that I’ve seen, PRE REQS are also so much more important than even at most universities I’ve seen. Counselors told me you have to basically plan your life around Cal Poly.

Good luck to you! I wish they weren’t so crazy competitive. My boyfriend is trying to get in for Computer Science because we live about 40 min. away from SLO.

Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it. I do have all the pre reqs, the bold and all of my GE. I will have everything I possibly could have done by the end of spring semester. I have the highest section for work hours and the second highest for community service. I know my GPA is low, but I hope I get in!

I live 25 min from Cal Poly SLO and am going to Cuesta. I have a 3.2 GPA, but have not taken any of the extra courses. My major is city planning which I heard is a little easier to get into. What are my odds?
