Transferring into Engineering?

I applied to Cornell College of Arts and Sciences as a Chemistry major and was accepted regular decision. At the time I was applying to schools I was extremely unsure of what I wanted to do and didn’t want to commit to engineering. Over time, though, I have become more and more decided on engineering and I really want to do chemical. Cornell is a really big option for me, but I’m scared of attending and not being able to transfer into engineering. How difficult is it? Would I be able to transfer for freshman year? In high school I have taken AP Chem, AP Calc AB (5), AP Calc BC, Co-Captain of Science Olympiad, etc… Basically I have a good foundation in math and sciences.

Please help!

Had the same question a week ago bud. Looks like it’s pretty hard over the summer or something, we have to show interest for a year.

Don’t ask us. Ask Cornell. They expect questions from accepted students, and you have a very good and very specific one.

It’s definitely possible. There’s a list of classes somewhere on the Cornell website that lists courses you must take and the GPA needed for an internal transfer. Google it. It could take until your sophomore year till you have the requirements, but it’s definitely doable.

It’s possible, but you really CANNOT transfer until after your first year AT THE VERY EARLIEST. If you accept Cornell’s offer, you are committing to studying in the College of A&S. There is no core A&S curriculum and the classes that freshmen Engineers take are mostly A&S classes anyway (!! math, phys, chem, cs, etc). You must do very well in those to be considered for transfer into Eng after your first year. Again, Engineering will not consider you for transfer until after they see how you do in your classes. Good luck.
