Transferring into Stern

I am a high school senior who has just finished applying to colleges and is now about to decide between a few of them. Right now, my options are Boston University, Wake Forest, UCSD, UCD (all of them as a bio major), and I am pretty confident that I will get into NYU for biology.

I was a huge science nut up until this semester, and thought for sure that I was going to go into medicine. This semester, however, I’ve been working as an intern with a company, and although I was trying to gain more experience in science, I’ve been working on projects that are more business related instead. So, as a result, after applying to all of my colleges as a bio major, I’ve discovered that I absolutely love business.

Because I also love New York, I’m hoping to be able to transfer to Stern eventually. I know that it’s incredibly competitive, but I was wondering if it’s even possible to transfer from bio to business? I mean they both start with the letter B, so that’s something, right?

Should I go to NYU for bio and try to transfer to Stern? Or should I go to a different school and attempt to transfer in later?

Please help. Now that I’ve gotten a taste of business, I can’t imagine ever sticking to bio and going through the original path I had planned out for myself. I can’t help but feel that it’s too late for me to change anything.

I’m not afraid of working hard – I just need to know if it’s a possibility for me to get into Stern at this point from a completely unrelated major.

Thanks.

The thing with transferring into Stern is that it is almost impossible to transfer into it from outside of NYU. It is easier to do it from within NYU. So if you really want to go to Stern you pretty much have to go to NYU first and then submit a transfer application.

Keep in mind this will be competitive as well since a lot of CAS and LSP students interested in business will be trying to do the same thing.

Thanks for responding, qwerty!

Yeah, I know it’ll be a lot harder for me because I’m not in a major even remotely related to business.

The thing is, if I go to NYU, I absolutely need to transfer to Stern, or else it doesn’t make sense for me to go there for bio as there are other places that are both far less costly and have better biology programs.

Has anyone ever heard of someone transferring from a non business related major to Stern?

Yes I have friends who have done it (Pre-Med, Chem to Stern). It’s possible but say you don’t get in would you still be happy with NYU CAS Econ which btw is still an excellent option since its a top Econ program and you can still use the city and the enormous NYU network to your advantage to find internships in business.

You could always try to go to a different schools with a good UG b-school as well like Wharton, Ross, Haas.

Sorry for the late reply!

I’ve officially gotten in for bio in NYU CAS, but I’ve also been offered a guaranteed transfer for Cornell, similarly for biology.

Am I able to take all the required courses for Cornell’s transfer while still taking everything needed to get into Stern? Or do I have to pick one or the other? Is there a rough number as to how many people transfer from CAS to Stern every year? I’m guessing a lot of them are transferring from econ :frowning:
