Hello all,

I'm currently a California community college student and I want to transfer as a junior into UCSB (first choice) or UCD (second choice) electrical engineering programs. I've completed all the required courses they posted on their website, but I have two things that worry me...

First: the majority of my college credits are from a four-year state school in New York (about 50 credits).

30 have been completed at the community college I'm attending now. ALL of the courses I've taken at the community college, and most (about 90-95%) of the courses I completed in NY, align perfectly with UCSB and UCD required transfer courses. I compared the syllabi for most of the courses from my previous school in NY to those at UCSB and UCD and they're pretty similar for the most part (equivalent credit-hours as well). Another good thing is I've been living in California long enough to become a resident, as I've heard that out-of-state applicants usually have lower priority. I guess I'm wondering if they'll consider the credits I've taken at my NY school. I can't really get a sense of the transferrable courses from my out-of-state school...

Second: My current overall gpa is 3.65, with my required coursework gpa around a 3.7-3.75, so I don't think it's high enough to be competitive for both schools. After looking over the admission statistics, they both seem a lot more competitive than I originally thought.

I'm not sure if anyone has transferred to these schools (and particularly the ee programs) from an out-of-state school; I can use some perspective. Thank you guys.
