Transferring & need advice!

Hey guys! I just got accepted into the University of South Florida for the fall 2018 semester. I’m currently a sophomore at Missouri State University and have only lived in MO my whole life. This has been my dream school for soooo long and I’m stoked to be able to live in Florida. But I’m super nervous because I won’t know ANYONE! Who else went through this and what did you do to meet friends? Was it hard to go through this? Thanks guys (:

Congratulations on the USF acceptance!

I think it depends on who you are, and your attitude towards meeting new people. Though I think it’s definitely an adjustment for everybody, whether you’re a shut-in or not. Once you get the swing of things, definitely look into joining clubs/organizations. USF has ~50,000 undergraduate students, so there’s definitely plenty to keep you busy.

Oh, and it’s okay to be nervous. Embrace it and have fun!

Dream school or not, there’s some factors that have to be considered. First, it’s out of state. Are your parents able to cover the extra costs? There’s a limit to how much student loan debt you can take out, so the difference has to come from a huge scholarship or mom and dad. Do NOT have your parents co-sign loans to cover the extra expense. If you get to the point where you have to do that, it should be a deal killer. $27k should be the limit any should student should have for a bachelors.

Second, classes don’t always transfer, even if they’re basic. Some schools are flexible for transfers, others are not. Be prepared to lose at least some of your coursework to electives. I tried to transfer to another in-state school some years back. I decided against it because I would have lost almost a year of school.
