Transferring out of All Womens LAC

Hey, do any women here have experiences transferring out of an all womens college to a coed school? Were you happy with your decision? I'm at a top womens LAC right now but just find the atmosphere dull and depressing, and lacking the "college" experience. And basically I'm just not happy here. Any thoughts from those in/or who have been in the same situation? Thanks so much!

Just make sure you look at your decision to transfer holistically, w/o being to distracted by the single-sex vs. coed factor. There are upsides to single-sex (busy college women become better friends, there are fewer distractions from studying, etc.). Depending on where you went to high school, sex at a coed school is a much bigger part of life in college, but I assume you anticipate that... I'd say do overnights at schools you're considering and form your feelings that way.

Yeah, thanks. Although I've made good friends here the dynamic is just so much different compared to some of my friend's schools (that happen to be coed). I'm going to stick it out so I make sure my decision is made for the right reasons.

Something that I've found though attending an all womens school is the desperateness of many of the straight girls on campus (its harder to meet guys than one might think) and the big presence of the lesbian population. But then again you will have different problems on a coed campus...and I'm trying to decide is the grass necessarily greener on the other side? I attended a K-12 school growing up so I was looking forward to a big change and the whole "college scene" but I am very close to home and I guess I just wanted more of a change. Any other comments would be great thanks!

Hey Sara, i realize you literally asked this 10 years ago, so its unlikely you still even have an account here, but I’m wondering if you do, did you end up transferring? If so can you talk about how you feel about that decision now?
