@IWannaHelp I’m assuming you’re a Northwestern student - can you tell me a little more about the environment and culture?
@monydad I was initially pre-med, now I’m leaning more healthcare and business. I’m worried that I’ll lose out on the networking and connections by going to a “lower tier” school. Anyone from OSU that can talk about where they ended up in the long run?
You seem like a strong applicant for Penn and NW; what are your test scores and HS GPA? I know you said you were accepted, so I assume very high, but it could help for context. Transferring to Wharton is pretty difficult, and I am not sure about NW’s business school. I do know someone that transferred from UCB to NW, though, so it is quite possible.
I transferred to Cornell midway through the year (first semester @ Cornell was last spring) and love it. Most of the people in my major go to consulting/banking or law school (I’m going law).
Would be happy to talk about Cornell & ILR; there’s an awesome transfer culture here. Know a few people who transferred from other top schools (Vassar, Brown, MIT) and love Cornell.
I am an alum that went there a while back. I am not sure if one can easily define the environment and culture. I think NU has a diverse student body that belong to six different undergraduate colleges; there are plenty of aspiring journalists, performing artists, and musicians that you don’t easily run into at Duke. In terms of social scene, you’d get very different answers depending on whom you ask. Some would say it’s dominated by frats while others would say there are plenty to do outside of frats. I do think there are more outlets at NU. Have nationally ranked music and theater programs means there are plenty of quality shows/concerts throughout the years. Evanston has more to offer than Durham and Chicago is easily accessible.
@seinfeldfan1 I got into NW out of HS - my ACT is 35 and my HS GPA was #1 in the school, my Duke GPA is considerably lower, around a 3.55 (which will hopefully move up at the end of this semester). @IWannaHelp I really did like Northwestern when I visited, felt that I fit in there, problem is I already submitted my application to withdraw from Duke at the end of this semester so I’d have nothing to do for 1 semester. Wharton is going to be tough to get into - I’m not sure if I can make the cut there.
Update - thanks to everyone for your help. I decided to go to Emory, and absolutely COULD NOT be happier with the decision that I’ve made. It’s a fantastic school that is a perfect fit for me.
