Transferring out of NYU

I want to transfer out of NYU. I have a 3.67 GPA and got a 1920 on my SATs as my highest score. What schools would be good to apply to? I want to upgrade... not downgrade. I'm willing to stick it out if better schools don't accept me, but i feel that it is worth trying... i just don't know where. columbia is one place i'm very interested in. How many schools would be a good number to apply to? I have a month to fill out apps and I have to have a teacher do recommendations so I don't want to overwhelm her. Thanks.

Are you a freshman now?
Did you get turned down by Columbia in the last admissions cycle?

To be honest, you're going to have to apply to many, many schools if you want to "upgrade." Transferring is even harder than getting in as a freshman (which already has most people applying to like 10 schools). By this point, schools like Columbia would probably expect even a higher gpa than that, though NYU's difficulty might help mediate that.

Why do you want to transfer?

was NYU too "easy"?

i'm a sophomore. it's not that nyu is "easy," because it's not. i just hate that i'm missing the traditional college experience which every other college in the world has besides this one. i know i'll regret it if i don't at least try and go somewhere that's normal. i mean, i'm involved here. i'm high up in the student government and other clubs, i'm well connected, i know a bunch of people, and i love the area... but i hate that this school requires hundreds of dollars spent every weekend just to maintain a few fake friends. everyone here wants to be famous and they're backstabbers who are self-interested. Of course there are nice people here too. but i can't take it. i want out... ASAP!

and yes... I did get turned down by columbia the first time around.
