transferring out of SD

I do know of a few transfers - one transferred from UCI to UCLA because she thought UCI was 'dead' and wanted a place with a football team and school spirit. She ended up doing about a year at a CC between UCI and UCLA to be able to transfer. I don't know any more details on that and don't know if she's really happier or not. I know of another person who transferred directly from UCB to UCLA because he didn't like UCB. I know of another person who transferred from UCLA to a CalState because she says she didn't like UCLA and LA that much although it was mostly just to get back to 'NorCal'.

My previous post was one of practicality as one who's somewhat familiar with both UCSD and UCLA since I have one kid at each. When it comes down to it, they're pretty similar and it boils down to making your own experiences rather than waiting for them to happen to you. btw - Both of my kids turned down UCB and others to go to their respective colleges and both are happy with their decisions.

^^do you know any reason for one of your children to choose sd over cal??besides 'i have feeling that i will be good here'??
and whats her or his major??
im just curious...

lmao the lakers have the warriors' number, sadly :(. at least we beat u guys last time.

She's a CS major and she's just always liked UCSD - she was already familiar with the campus. We visited UCB but it just didn't click with her and she likes the SD area better than the Bay area - especially the UCB area. She wants to end up working in this area and attending UCSD affords some connections to local companies. UCSD is also convenient for her to come home on a weekend if she wants to. She's not a commuter - she lived in the dorms the first 2 years and now is in an off-campus apartment. One of the nice things about UCSD is the plethora of apartments/condos just off-campus in the UTC area that are served by the shuttle and the relative (to UCB/UCLA) affordability and safety of the units.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with Cal, it's highly respected and I'm sure would have been fine for either of them, but UCSD and UCLA are also highly respected schools with high rankings in their engineering and other programs.

hm i haven't been here in a while: I would just like to say one thing. I started this thread to get information on transferring, and maybe some advice or success stories, so if you guys can share some with me that would be great

Lakers rules!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to agree, not so much that UCSD is socially dead, but we are isolated in an island, and it is especially so on the north and south sides of campus. I think in general though the atmosphere, mainly the uglyiness of the college is the largest of the downers. Euctalyptus depresses me.
