Transferring Out of Stony Brook

Hi everyone, I am in need of help. I am currently a sophomore at Stony Brook University and I play for the Men's D1 Soccer program. I am really unhappy on the team because I have a bad relationship with the coach. I am a health sciences major and I plan to go to grad school to study physical therapy. I have a 3.1 GPA, which is not very impressive but it is not easy to study calculus and chemistry while playing a D1 sport and doing an internship at the university's hospital. Right now I have 3 A's and 1 B this semester.

I really want to play NCAA soccer, but I want to do it for a school that is academically better and I am guaranteed to play. Because of this, I have started to look at D3's like NYU, Rochester, Rutgers-Camden, Geneseo, College of New Jersey, Skidmore and Hamilton.

I understand that some of the schools that I am interested in would be difficult to transfer to because of my average academics, but I think that I have a chance because the coaches would want me to help their program. What do you think?

Don’t you have to sit out a year if you transfer?

eta: sorry I misread. I don’t know about Div. 3.

I have talked to a lot of ex-players from SBU and i know that a couple play d3 and didn’t have to sit. However, they were only able to do this once they were given their release by the SBU coach.
