I'm planning to go to UCR with a Computer Engineering major and i was wondering if i'm able to transfer out sometime later when i decide to. I looked up on the UC site under the "Intercampus Transfers" section and it says

"At UCR, this option is not available to students transferring to The Bourns College of Engineering."

i'm not completely sure what that means but is that for incoming students that want to transfer into the Bourns College of Engineering?

oh yeah the reason i might want to do this is not because i hate UCR or anything, i just live so close to UCR and i don't wanna live at home all 4 years, and my parents won't let me dorm at UCR since i live so close. Also, because i have enough financial aid to cover all the fees and possibly get some money in my pocket. =P.

thanks!

You have two options, community college or UCR. CCC guarantees placement into every UC except CAL/LA with a 3.0 and classes are easier than those at UCR. UCR has second priority as a UC at most other UCs after CCC transfers. However, to be competitive you will need a 3.5ish which is definitely not easy.

If you cannot see yourself graduating from UCR, then you probably should go the CC route. Intercampus transfers (UC to UC) not only is hard, but a bit random as well. If you cannot handle graduating from UCR, CCC is probably the best option for you.

its not that i can’t handle graduating from UCR, i just want that option open if i do decide to transfer. my main question is if i have that option and that one section on the UC website that says
“At UCR, this option is not available to students transferring to The Bourns College of Engineering.”
confuses me. so yeah.

I think that sentence is in respect to the sentence before it.

“Students who satisfy the lower division general education/breadth requirements at a UC campus prior to transferring to another UC campus are considered to have satisfied the lower division general education breadth requirements at the UC campus to which they transfer. At UCR, this option is not available to students transferring to The Bourns College of Engineering. At UCSD, transfer reciprocity is available to students transferring to Warren, Marshall, Muir and Sixth colleges. Students who select Revelle or Eleanor Roosevelt college must satisfy the general education requirements of that college.”

I think it’s saying that if transfers from other UCs want to transfer INTO UCR’s Bourns College of Engineering (BCOE), they have to satisfy the “lower division general education breadth requirements” of BCOE because the lower-division GE classes probably won’t match up between the previous UC’s college and UCR’s BCOE.

By the way UCR Engineering programs is pretty good. But going back to your question go to a jc if you dont want to go to UCR. Students that are in UC or CSU have a long shot of tranfering that those in JCs
