Transferring Out

Hi there,

I am currently attending a state school for a relatively prestigious accelerated medical program (6 years instead of 8) and am thinking of transferring out because I do not feel as though the program is challenging nor do I like the atmosphere. I attended a college prep high school and graduated with a GPA of 3.82 (our school only submits one GPA). With that being said, my GPA increased significantly from each year after Freshman year with a Senior year GPA of 4.00. I got a 33 on the ACT (35,36,34, 25 on science -.-), superscored to a 34. I got a 1490 on the SAT with an 800 on the math section and 790 on the Math 2 Subject Test. I currently have a college GPA of 4.00 having taken 25 credits before heading into next semester. During my Freshmen admissions round, I was accepted at Emory and waitlisted at Cornell, Tufts (did not take anyone from waitlist), Carnegie Mellon (did not take anyone from waitlist), and Vanderbilt. I am currently being published on my research from High School and am awaiting review. I’ve only taken AP courses and have pushed myself to the limit whether that be through extracurriculars or programs during my high school career and would like to continue doing the same. Does anyone have any recommendations on University’s that would be within my reach?

Are you still pre-med? If so, stay put. Transferring out will not make it more likely for you to get into med school. Enjoy the relatively easy classes this year. Things will just get tougher from here on in, and you will be increasingly in classes with students who are more like you.

If you aren’t pre-med any more, or if you are waffling about it, then look around for good target institutions related to your possible new golas.

The end goal is med school, right? But 1) I hate (I know, strong word) my time here, and 2) I have other interests that I’d be interested in pursuing as a minor. The residency matches aren’t that great after the 4 years of med, and that is another issue bothering me.
