Transferring process?

I want to apply for Fall 2010 transfers but i'm kind of blurry on the whole transferring process..

When should I take the SAT?
When should I start asking professors for recommendations? I've barely met any of my professors and I'm not sure if I can get to know them much before app deadlines.. :S
Which of the top 25 schools are the most "transfer friendly"?

There are a few threads on here on how to get to know your professors. Also, check out the transfer 101 sticky. If you are applying for fall 2010, then you have all of fall 2009 and part of spring 2010 to get to know two professors (or TAs) very well.

Likewise, you have all of this school year (and maybe early next fall) to take the SAT.

The college board has transfer statistics on its website, but stats from state schools may be misleading because admission is “easier” for in state students. Admission for transfers is also more likely to be need aware, so your chance of admission at some schools may depend on your family’s finances.
