Transferring. So who knows about colleges?

I applied to my first choice LAC early decision, got in, was ridiculously happy, etc.
But now that I'm here, I realize it's not what I want in a lot of ways and I'm seriously considering transferring. I love the excellent academics and reputation, small classes/good relationships with profs, great research opportunities, and gorgeous campus, but I don't think I have it in me to go to an all women's college!
The homesickness sucks (I'm 800 miles away from my hometown, Ann Arbor) but I can live with that and I've heard it gets better. I do absolutely love U of M Ann Arbor (sports, pep, great reputation, amazing city) so I'm definitely applying to LSA (liberal sciences and arts) at U of M to transfer, but the huge class sizes are such a turn off.
Basically, I want an academically strong (co-ed!) liberal arts school with the atmosphere of a school like U of M. I'd guess I'm a pretty competitive applicant at most schools, but my junior year of HS grades aren't amazing so that probably rules out the top top schools.

Suggestions? All I have is Dickinson, and I don't know how good of a match that is having only been there one.

THANK YOU :)

Before you transfer…

Will your family pay for wherever you transfer to? Tranfer students often don’t get great aid packages.

Boston College, Lehigh, maybe Colgate? Let me know if I am going in the right direction

Two options:

The Residential College at Michigan. It takes some sophomore transfers.

Stay at your current college for a second year and transfer to Michigan as a junior. Your higher-level classes in your major will be much smaller. You can probably plan it so that most of the requirements are out of the way before you transfer.

mom2collegekids, that’s definitely an issue. If U of M happens, I get in state tuition. That’s still pricey (it’s U of M…) but if I can get any financial aid on top of in state I think I’d be ok. As for the other schools, money would be a factor

WatRurChances, I’ll check those out. I’d imagine Colgate (which I have actually visited and like a lot) is a big reach, since it was a reach for me as a non-transfer last year?

Hanna, WHAT?!? Haha I did not know the RC takes sophomore transfers! I will definitely look into that, thank you!

Thanks guys :)

The problem is that transfer students don’t usually get their aid packages until shortly before school starts. That can be too late if the aid package is crappy. It will be too late to stay at your current school.

What was your EFC at your current college?

I know U of M tells you your aid package before you have to make a decision. I’m pretty sure Dickinson is the same.
My EFC here is $12,000 per year
