Hello, I’m a rising junior attending a high school that is lowkey a really easy magnet school even though the classes are all supposed to be “honors”. Therefore it makes it really easy for me to maintain a high GPA. But, we learn almost nothing (this year I learned nothing in Algebra II because the students were too loud and didn’t want to learn and the teacher didnt really care) and I’m kind of scared that this school isn’t going to prepare me for college and also our one counselor is just… trash. However, we have a career shadowing program that allows us to shadow HCP’s as one of our classes, which seems like a really good activity to put into my EC’s in senior year and also have many programs that we can participate in because it is a low income region. I’m thinking of transferring to a close-by school though because even though that school is more competitive, it’ll help me more in preparing for college. It’s also a “proper” high school unlike my current school which is technically a subset of the public high school in our city.
On another note, I took the June SAT and I think the results will be satisfactory. My current school only offers 4 AP Classes (3 of them we can only take in senior year) while the other school offers 10. At this point, do you think it’s worth it to go to transfer for my junior and senior year?
You can try to take courses at you local community college during the summer or on weekends
If you are happy at your current school (socially, friends, clubs, activities, sports) stay. If you have a strong GPA and do well on the SAT you will be all set. You are obviously conscientious and success in higher education is based largely on having good study skills, time management, willingness to work hard and self-discipline.
Good luck whatever you decide.
