Transferring to Brown as a Sophomore

Due to my family’s financial situation, I was not able to apply to as many schools as I would have liked this past winter, despite a fee waiver from my counselor. I will be attending Liberty University in the fall, but after reviewing the Slavic Studies concentration at Brown, I am seriously considering transferring there for my Sophomore year.

I understand that your high school credentials will hold more weight than your college credentials as a rising Sophomore. However, realistically speaking, how much weight will my year at Liberty hold in the eyes of the admissions officers? I personally believe my high school stats are competitive, but I’m sure that my year at Liberty will receive some attention. The question is, how much? Should I make every effort to be involved while at Liberty? Or will a strong first and second semester grades be enough?

Additionally, am I at a significant disadvantage because I need close to full financial aid?

Brown is need aware for transfers so it does put you at a disadvantae . I would recommend getting as involved as possible at Liberty and maintaining a strong (3.6) or better GPA and you will probably be fine! What means most are good well-written, reflective essays! Good luck!

Would you consider taking a gap year? Your chances at good FA will be much better if you apply as a freshman.

Admissions is need aware for transfers so it is very rare to get aid as a transfer

@bruno My parents wouldn’t support my taking a gap year, and I feel should be getting some education in the upcoming year.

Does Brown not give out any full-ride awards, and disperses aid to all those that ask for it? Or are there some full aid awards, just not many?
