I’m currently a freshman student at Macalester College.
For the first semester, my GPA was 3.43
I’ll most likely be trying to get a rec from my Math professor from first semester, and most likely my econ professor as well.
In high school, my weighted GPA was 3.3, and SAT of 1960
I played 4 years of Varsity baseball (Not sure if sports matter anymore)
2015 CIF Champions for our division for baseball, but no longer playing.
2 years of Varsity soccer (Again, unsure)
I’m not content with the culture and the people around me at Macalester, and was wondering what my chances were if I applied to Carleton. I visited, and got found myself identifying with the people a lot more.
I don’t really know your odds, but I think Carleton has such a low rate of attrition that they do not accept many transfer students each year. I’ve seen anywhere between 0 and 6 or so. Anyone else hear otherwise?
I don’t know the exact numbers, but a small number of people probably leave in any given year–not necessarily due to dissatisfaction, but for health or other reasons. Things happen. I know someone who had to leave (several years back) for health reasons, and I also met the parents of a transfer student during Family Weekend. It’s worth a shot.
Just curious what you don’t specifically like about Macalester, and how you expect Carleton to be different. They are two progressive small liberal arts colleges less than an hours drive from each other.
The number of clubs available at Macalester I’d limited, and there is a lot of exclusion. When I visited Carleton, I was surprised by the number of clubs and intramural sports available. Having more choices to become involved in school activities is important for me, and Macalesters clubs aren’t cutting it for me.
