Transferring to Cornell Arts & Sciences from a community college

Hello, I am an 18 year old student in my 2nd semester at a community college.

I applied to Cornell's school of Arts and Sciences and I was wondering if I earned myself a fighting chance in the admissions office.

Let's start out with the basics:

Positive aspects:
*1st semester 4.0 GPA with 17.5 credits
*Volunteering at a hospital around 15 hrs a week
*Working around 15 hours a week
*Member of Phi Theta Kappa
*Letter of recommendation from a teacher that really likes me (I had over 100% on the majority of his tests)
*Great essays (one involved how I visited Cornell and talked to people who thought I was a great fit; both demonstrate creativity and facility of the English language, and also show intellectual passion)

Negative aspects:
*Poor SAT score (M:510 R:630 W:550 TOTAL: 1690)
*Poor HS gpa (2.2 ish, even though right when I started getting home schooled I got all A's)

If you need any more information, please ask.

Just wanted to add that I’m thinking myself, notwithstanding, that I have many other competitive applicants with better test scores and extracurricular activities. I saw in other threads that there were people getting denied that had a 4.0gpa, were members of phi theta kappa, who have better test scores, and volunteer frequently (like myself).

On the positive side, I believe that my essay was well written. If anyone is willing to read it and let me know what they think, I would really appreciate it. It’s terse, and shows my personality and my writing style well.

I am hoping for someone of like mind as me to be in the admissions office that day; someone who can recognize the difference of my writing style and embrace it. Someone who will argue, and fight for me.

Bump…

Should I just loose all hope now? Or should I persevere, study harder for the SATs, and keep getting good grades…

Anyone have any suggestions about good premed/research schools? I am going to apply to UB as well, just in case. I am close to UB and it would save me some cash. Any other universities you guys have in mind?

Hey guys, still waiting to hear back from Cornell. Should hear back mid-May.

Any thoughts?
