How difficult would it be to transfer to an engineering major from an unrelated major after the freshman year. Would it mean taking an extra year or semester? Are any engineering majors easier to switch into than others?

Thanks

It would depend on what you took your freshman year. If you took all the general courses like histories, governments, English, and other electives freshman year then it probably wouldn’t mean an extra year. If you took a lower level math or science that wouldn’t count towards engineering then it may mean an extra year.

At A&M all freshman engineering course plans are pretty much the same except for a few so for at least the first year one will not be harder than the other.

An engineering freshman basically takes:

Depending on the engineering major will determine how far behind you are for a 4-year graduation time. You can (in my humble opinion) be one semester behind with the Calculus & Physics in a computer science program and still graduate on time.

I recommend taking some classes in the summer and studying on your own and getting some credits through clep.

It may take you an extra semester to complete your degree but it is worth it.

Take atleast 15 credits a semester.
