Hi guys,
I’m a student who went to school outside the US and never had an actual goal to work towards, so I did really badly in high school. Having since moved to North Carolina and enrolling in a community college in January 2015, I’ve started researching more on finding my dream school, and Florida State University is it. Right now, I have a 3.8 GPA from one semester of 6 classes (made the Dean’s list) and am currently taking 3 classes in my second semester. That will give me a total of 24 credits. However, there has been a change of plans and I am moving to South Florida – which is good in a sense that it’ll be easier to transfer my credits to FSU. I’m planning to transfer to another community college in Florida to continue my education and have found one that is in agreement with FSU.
Here is the thing, I want to transfer to Florida State University as a sophomore after obtaining around 35 credits. If I maintain a 4.0 GPA throughout my next semester in a Florida community college, do you think I will be accepted as a lower-division transfer student in FSU? Since that would mean I’m required to send my SAT/ACT scores and high school transcripts, I am thinking of retaking my SATs because I did not study the last time I took them (in high school) and got a 1590. I’m trying to get at least a 1790 this time round and take my ACTs for the first time as well. If I do well in my SATs and maintain a high GPA without an A.A. degree, will they accept me? I’m afraid they will see that I did not do well in high school and not want to accept me. But on the other hand, they could possibly look at my transcripts and see how much I have changed since transitioning into college.
I’m afraid that if I transfer as a lower-division student, I will get rejected. But if I do, how soon can I reapply? And will that affect my chances? Or would you recommend I finish my A.A degree before transferring to FSU? Thank you so much. Sorry, I am new to the American education system.
