Ok, then should you recomend I stay at my school and then go to a better grad school or wait two years? I may chose NYU’s engineering though???

That is a very low and whopping 6% admittance, they sure are mean lol ;)

You seriously shouldn’t worry so much about waiting an extra year. In my experience there are a numerous students who get in with high SATs, decent GPAs, and one strong semester. There is no need to have 1.5 years of college. If you look at previous CC transfer posts you’ll see this. By listening to this board you are potentially missing out on a year of being at a school you will graduate from, and the social implications are significant. My only other advice is to look past Cornell at the other non-Ivy schools. They are much less selective for transfers.

Ok, so you are saying I could transfer with one semester of freshman year undergrad? by the way slipper1234, would you happen to know if Ivy’s are picky about where students come from- meaning what specific college or do they only care about the grades, ec’s, etc.?

I recommend your sophomore year as well. Junior year seems tougher socially.

I get ya, I should apply spring of next year for fall of 2011 transfer correct? Also, would it be about the same rate to get into cornell or any other ivy engineernig program as MIT’s program?

You should apply for schools that are not as rigorous as IVY’s or MIT. With only a 2030 and a low GPA, coming from Purdue, even with a 4.0, the chances of acceptance are very slim. If you’re intent on going to a different university, you should add safeties to your list.

You’re right MIT and Ivies (grad school maybe??) are big reaches, maybe GaTech or Cal Tech?

2030 = high SAT?

3.3 = decent gpa?

No, this is my HS GPA (got hammered with IB stuff so thats why the low GPA and had to start working cause of family financial issues which obviously put a strain on my job and school) but I am just saying what are my chances of getting into an Ivy if I go to Purdue or NYU for engineering with a decent GPA (3.8+) entomom…

^^I believe that slipper’s comment does include your HS gpa, as he says “decent GPAs, AND (emphasis mine) one strong semester”. The “one strong semester” refers to the fall semester of your fr year since he is advocating for a soph transfer, therefore, the “and decent GPAs” includes your HS gpa.

Oh… What do think entomom? What advice would you give me? Plus I want to chose NYU engineering over Purdue to be honest, could that hinder chances even more?

Applying from NYU definitely gives you better chances as opposed to Purdue. I agree to wait until after a full year to transfer, though, so you get two terms of college grades in.

Ok, well I got into chemical engineering at NYU’s new school of engineering, but can’t weigh out my choices to give me a good advantage at getting in to an Ivy after two terms…
