Transferring to MIT

Hey Everyone,

I am going to be a sophomore at UIUC this upcoming semester. I am currently trying to get into their CS program, however, I’ve been considering applying to MIT as a transfer. I know getting in is near impossible, but I would still love to try and apply. I am currently sitting at a 3.62 gpa hopefully after a successful semester it’ll be around a 3.75 when I apply to transfer. Would it be more beneficial to wait another semester and try to bring my gpa higher before applying? Or will a 3.75 be a competitive gpa given I am applying from great school and have taken more difficult classes. I am also planning on taking the SAT along with the Math 2 and Physics subject tests. What scores should I be aiming for on these tests to be a more competitive candidate and actually give myself a slim chance of being accepted? Any feedback is appreciated thank you.

Many will be applying to transfer to MIT, and many will have a strong academic profile, which conveys you can handle the workload. That’s the necessary but not sufficient piece.

Then the adcoms will look beyond your academics to the rest of your application where they will determine if you stand out from the rest, if the institute is a good match for you, and how you might complement the incoming class.

By all means do apply. Transfers with your stats do get accepted, (I speak from experience). But there needs to be other things elsewhere in your application that carry you.
