Transferring to NYU??

I'm a Sophomore at a CC right now. I'm in the honors program, where I hold a leadership position. I'm Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper, a member of Phi Theta Kappa and NSCS. My GPA is roughly a 3.7, and I'm a volunteer via Big Brothers Big Sisters. What are my chances for admission? I'll be applying to Arts and Sciences.

You have a good chance, but if financial aid is a concern, I would advise you to look at other schools.

I would definitely need financial aid. I’ve heard they don’t like to accept students with financial need, is that true?

In my opinion, they will probably accept you, but give you a financial aid award mostly comprised of loans. If it’s your top choice, I would advise you to apply for as many outside scholarships as you can.

We have somewhat similar stats and I just got accepted to Steinhardt. As far as financial aid, I wouldn’t say that it factors into their decision because I have an EFC of 0. With that being said, they offered me about 7k for the semester in grants and scholarships. The rest was loans. I hope that helps.

I don’t know how this will apply to NYU specifically, but since you said you’re a member of Phi Theta Kappa, there’s also this:

Transfers needing aid should forget NYU. The debt is just not worth it.
