I'm currently a freshman at nyu who is considering transferring to pepperdine. I have many reasons, but the main ones are that nyu doesn't have a real "campus" feel to it and it's difficult to make friends. For current students I was wondering, is there a lot to do in Malibu and Santa Monica, or will I be bored? And is it a tight knit community in which people get to know each other easily?

Also, any other transfers out there?

I can't really answer your question because I'm not at Pepperdine yet, but I will be next year.

The thing is...NYU is actually my first choice and I got wait listed. I was wondering if you could tell me the other reasons that are/were making you consider transferring to Pepperdine.

My answer is based strictly on what I have read. I will be attending school in the fall. It seems there is not a lot to do in Malibu however Santa Monica is about 20 minutes away. There is a lot of activity going on there with the promenade, beach, etc.

If anything, you can rest at ease regarding the campus feel of Pepperdine. I have visited a few times, and the campus is very welcoming and students are friendly.

Pepperdine definitely has a college feel to the campus. It's small and compacted, which really gives off a collegey vibe. There really isn't a lot to do around the school though. My brother usually drives up to different parts of California for parties or entertainment (usually Santa Monica.) The plus is that the beach is very close. Also, there's not a lot of stores etc around Pepperdine. There's one little supermarket called Ralphs but that's pretty much it. One of the reasons I decided not to attend Pepperdine is because it's a very quiet campus (that isn't to say boring, it just doesn't fit my personality.) Basically, you'll get what you put in here. If you don't try to make friends with anybody you won't, but that is the same at any school. There are many friendly people here and it is an incredibly gorgeous area.
