Transferring to Tufts from NYU

I am currently a freshman at NYU, and have applied to transfer. My main reasons for transferring were that, while I love New York City, I realized it was not what I want my undergraduate experience to be. There is little campus life, as NYU does not have a traditional campus, and community is very difficult to find. It feels like I am merely living in the city and attending classes, which is not how I want to spend my years as an undergrad. I'm looking for a place that would have a traditional campus and a smaller student body, with more of a sense of a community among students.

I found out today I was accepted to TUFTS as a sophomore transfer!!!
I'm wondering if anyone has any insight as to whether Tufts will provide what I'm looking for in my undergraduate years. I have visited the campus, and have done research into majors and extracurriculars (I'm interested in Environmental Studies), but I'm wondering if anyone has any insight as to the sense of community on campus (broad, I know, but understandable I hope). In addition, it would be nice to hear any experience transferring to Tufts as a sophomore. How do I find out about housing? Is it difficult to make friends coming in as a sophomore? Anything else I should know before I make my final decision?

Thanks so much for any insight.

how were you notified? letter, call, tams?

Letter in the mail today.

Woah, your post could have come from me. Really. I applied as a sophomore transfer from NYU to Tufts for the same reasons that you cited, and I was also accepted today.

Congrats!

Same to you! Do you think you’ll be attending?

Check out Eugenia’s blog on the Tufts Blogs website. She’s a transfer student loves to answer questions from incoming transfer students on what the experience is like and what they can expect.

This post, I think, is particularly helpful.

I’m not sure yet. I’m leaning pretty heavily in that direction, but I haven’t heard from any of my other schools yet. And that’s a bit of a problem, because the deadline for the deposit may come before I get any other decisions.

What about you, will you attend?

!!!
How did you guys receive your decisions already? I am applying as a transfer and I have yet to see anything in the mail, email, or on TAMS.

I talked to someone in Admissions two days ago and they told me they were still working on transfer applications and it could be another two weeks!

That blog was really helpful, thanks Dan.

I’m actually in the exact same situation - waiting to hear back from other schools, concerned with the deadlines and all that. But Tufts is a huge possibility right now - my latest finals procrastination is looking through the Tufts website and course bulletin and tuftslife.com (a friend at Tufts showed it to me). The more I see the more I want to go there!

Get in contact with Eugenia - it’s finals time here at Tufts, but I know she’d love to hear from you. (E-mail addresses at Tufts are usually firstname.lastname@tufts.edu)

You were right, she was thrilled to hear from me! Great to hear from a transfer student who is thrilled with Tufts.

A question that you, Dan, may be able to answer:
Another school I applied to said they won’t be releasing transfer decisions until May 15th (just called - the date is firm). Tufts wants a deposit by the 14th - is it possible to get an extension on this date?

Thanks!

You’ll have to contact our office to talk to Denny Paredes - director of transfer admissions - to get an answer about that. I’m not sure what the answer is.
