Transferring Again

I am a college sophomore who just this semester transferred from NYU to Boston College. I was not a fan of living in NYC or the whole NYU social scene and had gone to visit my friend at Tufts Unversity in Boston several times and loved it there. Since Tufts did not accept any January transfers, and I wanted to get out of NYU asap, I foolishly thought it would be fine just to transfer to another college in the area, Boston College, and I could make friends there as well as go over to Tufts from time to time. However, now that I am at BC, I am finding that I made a poor choice. In reality, I just want to be at Tufts and I don't really like BC that much. I should have just stuck it out for another semester at NYU and tried to transfer to Tufts in the Fall.

So, my question is, do you think there is any way I could transfer again to Tufts? I had amazing grades at NYU (3.95 GPA), great SATs, great high school grades and extracurriculars, could get an awesome letter of recommendation, and I'm a really good writer and I think I could write a great essay about the whole misguided transfer to BC. Do you think there is any chance I could pull this off?

I’m in the same boat, with a more messay background. I left my first school in a hurry, leaving a slew of W’s on my 3.6 transcript. I didn’t go back to school for a year and a half, and it was to a CC (though I increased my GPA here). I just applied to 4 schools, including a safety.

Good luck to you. I think you have a better shot than I do.

Thanks! Anyone else have any thoughts? Does it matter that I’ll have to apply with my only record being from my previous school, as I have no GPA, grades, etc. yet from BC?

You hate BC. You think you’d like Tufts. Apply to Tufts. The worst thing that can happen is that you won’t get into Tufts.

You also need to consider your other options. Can you finish your degree at BC? Would you rather go back to NYU? Is there somewhere else that you could apply to as a back-up?

Since you are so unhappy where you are, if you don’t get into Tufts you may want to take a leave of absence at the end of this semester and give yourself time to reconsider all of your options.
