Transferring to UCI with great GPA but one class short of prerequisites

I am trying to transfer from community college to UCI for the literary journalism major in Fall 2017. I have a 3.9 GPA and I’m on track to have all my major prep coursework done by the end of Spring 2017 except for one darn Spanish class. I will be taking Spanish 102 this semester and 201 next semester, but the prerequisite is completion of Spanish 202. I realize how important it is to meet all the major prep pre-requisites before you transfer, but I’m holding out hope that my high GPA will make up for it enough for me to get accepted. I’m also wondering if UCI would allow me to take the course in the summer of 17 (unfortunately Spanish is not offered as a winter intersession class at any local CC’s).

I don’t know how strict UCI is when it comes to applicants who haven’t met the major prep pre-reqs. I’m going to call the UCI admissions office tomorrow and I have an appointment scheduled with my counselor to talk about it, but I’m hoping someone here can give me some clarity and let me know how bad I’ve screwed up / how likely I am to get in.

Thanks!

The major says it does not require the completion of pre-reqs at the top of the assist page. Usually (I’m saying this in a very generalized way), the UCs let you finish language after you get there if it’s ancillary to the major (in other words, it’s not a language major). Anyhow, your major says it’s OK.

So, what did UCI say?
