Just wondering what's the most common place for a transferring junior to live while going to UCSB that's not at home. Like on campus or close to campus and where?

Matt4200,

They used to have to two Residence halls that are meant to set space aside for Transfers, Manzanita Village and San Rafael. However, due to more students enrolling as Freshman, they decided to put all Transfers in University-owned Apartments, at least for the ones that want housing with the university. You still have the option to find an apartment on your own, usually around Isla Vista or Goleta.

I’m currently an incoming transfer to UCSB, and i wanted to live in Manzanita Village but was put into an apartment

How close is Isla vista? And how does the university owned apartment situation work out?

And what was your transfer GPA if you don’t mind me asking?

Have you even put any effort into this at all? Here. <a href=“LMGTFY - Let Me Google That For You”>LMGTFY - Let Me Google That For You;

Not really, I’ve been rly focusing on my community college grades right now trying to get my GPA up everything else is not as important

LMAO!!! UCBhopeful16!!! hahahahha I’m going to start using that.

Matt4200,

Isla Vista is literally right next to the campus.

As for the university-owned apartments, they’re basically cheaper than having a residence hall. You don’t have a meal-plan included like you do if you were to live in a residence hall, though. However, you may purchase an off-campus meal-plan if you want. Generally, most of the university-owned apartments are very close to the campus, like in Isla Vista. Basically, walking distance to the campus. Check out the UCSB housing page and you’ll see. Let me know if you have any other questions. Still, try exploring the UCSB housing page, when you have time. I’m pretty sure you do, and this is coming from someone who took 21-Units (hardcore classes, too), while going through a lot and still managing to earn great grades.

Thanks for the heads up, I’ll check that out haha there’s just a lot of things I’m sure that are left out of the housing page but that are common knowledge to people living there you know?

What would you say are the best university apartments for the price?

And yea I feel ya on that **** bro I took 15 semester units pretty hard classes while going through some bull **** and taking a lot of what life had to throw at me and managing to being my GPA up a little bit.

Yeah, there are some things that are left out or are kind-of hidden in the website haha I haven’t started living there, yet. I don’t move in until September. I’m excited! Whoot!

Well, you will either be paying $521/month (Triple Occupancy, Santa Ynez), $593/month (2 Bedrooms | 4 Occupants, any university-owned apartment), $766/month (1 Bedroom | 2 Occupants, Westgate), or $1223/month (Studio | 1 Occupant, Westgate). You can also try to get a Graduate Apartment (San Clemente Villages) by asking to be put on the Waitlist for one. Generally, if you ask to be put on the waitlist early, you will get one. That will run you either $1020/month (2 Bedrooms | 2 Occupants) or $891/month (4 Bedrooms | 4 Occupants). Also, the price you see is what every person is paying individually, no matter what spot you get. In other words, if you get a university-owned apartment that costs $766/month, you are not splitting the $766 with your roommates. That’s how much all of you are paying, you and your roommates.

Personally, I’m trying to get an Apartment in Westgate with one other person (1 Bedroom | 2 Occupants). I’m willing to settle for Santa Ynez, though, if I don’t get what I want. I’m still waiting to hear back from housing. Supposedly, transfers will hear back mid-July (this month) and will be able to self-assign themselves to an apartment they want. I also might get an off-campus meal plan for my first quarter at UCSB, even though it’s a total rip off. I’m not going to eat every meal on-campus; I am going to cook for myself and treat myself (or someone ) out on the weekend every now and then, but I just want the luxury of a meal-plan my first quarter. If I do get it, I will get a very basic plan, because I know I won’t eat every meal on-campus.
