Transferring to UCSB...

Hi!

I'm curious what others think about my chances of getting into UCSB as a Physiology major. I would like to double major in Religious Studies, but I'm not quite sure if that's possible yet.

I'm at a well-known community college right now and I have 55 UC transferable semester units. I have 4 W's and two D's, both which were retaken for A's. My current GPA is 3.16, but I'm fairly certain I will have a 3.30 after next semester. I'm hoping I can raise it a little more by the time I apply, but I won't get my hopes up.

I will be applying next Fall, not this Fall, so I will have around 100 units when I apply. I will have all prereqs and IGETC completed. Plus, I will be eligible for TAG, which requires a 3.20, and plan on applying for that. Aaaand I'm pretty confident in my ability to write amazing personal statements. So, I'm thinking I have a good chance, but I know things have been getting a little more competitive lately. Opinions?

Why don’t you try applying this fall? You have nothing to lose. If you get accepted, go and partyyyyyyyyyy. If you don’t, you get some valuable experience that will help you the next time you apply.

And you are right, things are getting more competitive. FYI, someone on this board mentions that only LA and Cal read personal statements, so I hope that doesn’t freak you out…

This is from 2010 but here is the link:

I’m not applying this Fall because I’m not really in a rush and also because I’m taking a semester off to backpack Eastern Europe.

Do I still have to write a personal statement for UCSB? I mean, I’m applying to almost all the UCs, so I’ll have to write a statement for some, but… that’s odd.

Oh, but it also says all campuses use the personal statement to evaluate gaps in education… and I have a 4 year gap between graduating high school and beginning at this college. So, I suppose the personal statement is still a good idea.
