I am a first year student at a CC in Maryland, i want to apply to UMD - CP but i have less than 30 credits.
This semester i got a 4.0 and i hope i get a 4.0 this upcoming semester.
UMD requires transfer students to send in there highschool transcript if they have less than 30 credits. I got a 2.9 weighted in highschool ( i didn’t take it serious & i regret it)
So if i have a 3.7-4.0 GPA will only 24 credits do you think they would focus on my highschool transcript?? or should i just complete 30 credits at the community college??
Best bet is to knock out as many classes at the CC as you can. It’s cheaper and generally a better format than UMD’s intro level courses. That said, it only costs you the application fee to apply now. If you don’t get accepted immediately then just take more courses and apply against next semester/year.
I got accepted into UMD from a MD CC with 23 credits (I had like a 3.1 or 3.2 GPA) and in high school I had a 2.55 unweighted but a 3.8 my senior year. I was in the MTAP program and dual enrolled the semester before I transferred and had a lot of community outreach type stuff on my application and a very unusual back story. My decision was postponed by two weeks but I was accepted in the end.
@NUMDG18 Im a community college student enrolled in mtap right now, I have a 3.2 GPA and 15 credits, but will have 31 credits by the end of may, and applying for fall 2016, I submitted my app by priority deadline (March 1st), do you think I will get my acceptance letter in mid-april with everyone else or will mines be postponed like yours until i send in my final transcript with 30 credits?
I am a current freshman at Bowie Stste University, a school that is apart of the University System of Maryland. I applied to be a transfer student in the fall of 2016 before the priority deadline with a 3.8 after completing 15 credits. I am now in the process of completing 30 credits, and I plan to at least maintain that 3.8 I am on the Freshman class executive board, I work part time in the Office of the Provost at my school, and I also do community service.
In high school, I graduated from a prestigious private high school, but only with a 2.9. When I applied originally I was denied, but that was not the last of my efforts to be accepted. Despite my fairly low GPA, I played basketball all throughout high school, I also served as SGA secretary, and I was involved in several community service projects.
I have heard that transfer admissions is a little bit less selective compared to first-time applicants, and I wanted to know what my chances of being admitted will be.
