I am currently a freshman at UNC Greensboro, and could not dislike where I currently am more than I already do. I've been unable to make any friends and the culture in general just isn't what I envisioned my college experience to be like. I never really chose UNCG, because when I made the decision to stay in-state (I'm from North Carolina), it was the only school still taking applications. It has always been a dream of mine to go to UNC Chapel Hill, and fully plan on applying to transfer there. I've already started the application, and plan on submitting it early on, hopefully by the end of October or early November.
My SAT score is 1870 (but I'm going to take it again in October to hopefully bring it up), and ACT is 27. My high school GPA was relatively low, around 3.5, but my current grades at UNCG are looking good and I've been focusing 100% on making as good of grades as possible.
My real question is, how big or small are my chances? I don't know if still being an in-state resident will help with transfer admissions, or applying from another NC state school will help at all. I'm a solid writer and my application essays are looking pretty good. Does anyone have any tips on how I can improve my chances or make my application stand out more?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

As a freshman, it will be difficult to get in with those stats because UNC will look at your HS record still considering you haven’t completed much work at UNCG. I believe they look for 30+ credits of college work completed by the time the person applies in order to forgive HS shortcomings. Typically, sophomore transfers that get accepted would have still gotten in as freshman applicants. You can apply this year and see what happens, and if you don’t get in, don’t get discouraged because you would have a much better chance applying as a junior transfer. Aim for as high of a GPA as possible and get active at UNCG and you should have a good shot. Good luck!

So, you want to transfer for the Spring Semester?

sergiok, I don’t believe that UNC takes Spring semester transfers, so I’m applying just for next Fall

As a UNC graduate, i can tell you right now that UNC Chapel Hill is the HARDEST university in the triangle area. And i mean that. TAKE ALL OF THE HARD CLASSES for UNC-CH at UNCG. this way you will not destroy your GPA by coming to UNC-CH. TRUST ME. UNC will DISTROY your GPA even if you think that you’re “SMART”. And if you’re pre-med, DO NOT TAKE CHEMISTRY AT UNC!!! DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT. This is the ONLY post on earth that will tell you the truth. UNC makes sure that only 15% of students can make an A in any of the pre-med science classes. Honors courses are rigged to make sure that 80% of them make only As and Bs while non-honors classes (the ones with more than 200 ppl in them) are rigged on C curves.

If you did not go to a private school, a HS that is nationally ranked, or were not the top 5% of your graduating class, expect to struggle at UNC if you decide on a science major… THIS IS THE TRUTH.

If you are a black person, expect to STRUGGLE EVEN MORE… (i am and i did). Culture shock is real. Test anxiety is real. If your family is unsupportive, you will struggle at UNC.

I still went though because i loved it too…lol… and my degree is very strong!

NC State will give you MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO SHINE AND BE SUCCESSFUL so decide VERY CAREFULLY!!! NC State will get you into med school FASTER THAN UNC will

if and only if you are an AVERAGE student. Now if you scored four 5’s on your AP exams and IB exams, then you’re good and u shouldn’t be worried at all about doing well at UNC-CH ;)
