Okay, so I realize I don't have a great shot, but I thought I'd give this a whirl just to see what you guys think.

I applied to UPenn in high school (regular decision) and was waitlisted-->rejected. I'm now a sophomore at NYU and I would be applying to UPenn for my junior and senior years. I would be applying as an English major.

In high school:
not sure of my gpa, I'd guess a 3.8 or so unweighted, maybe 4.0 weighted?
2100 on the SATs (750 Writing, 700 Critical Reading, 650 Math)
pretty good extracurriculars (main ones were acting and being Entertainment Editor on the school newspaper)

In college:
NYU College of Arts and Sciences
Major: Dramatic Literature, Theater History and the Cinema [basically an English major, but for plays]. Minors: Creative Writing [not offered as a major], Producing [not offered as a major]
3.7 gpa
for ECs:
freshman year--did a lot of acting, nannied
summer--interned at a TV production company, worked at a bookstore
sophomore year--working part-time at a literary agency, hoping to get another part-time job, hope to enter and possibly win a short story contest or two. I've never really submitted my work before, but I have a lot of fiction that I've just worked on on my own and in classes.

I also have legacy (grandfather, great grandfather, great aunt, aunt) and my grandfather has done work which has helped UPenn financially.

I like NYU as a school and I love the opportunities New York provides, but I am just not content with my major or the English department here. I really love UPenn and wish that I had applied early decision in high school......though perhaps that wouldn't have worked and I would be at NYU regardless.

i think you'll have an outside shot...the point that might stick out in your app is your lack of ec's in college, those are often what distinguish applicants from the rest of the pack when applying to ivies...leadership positions are always important...jobs are nice, and for many people on here necessary, but won't distinguish you (less its a really cool job)...youre ec's certainly arent terrible, but try and make yourself stand out in some way

You have a decent chance, a 3.7 GPA from NYU is very impressive I congratulate you and you would get a transfer almost anywhere the only problem is it is UPenn and the transfer rates are ridiculously low so yeah like dufflebagjesus said you have to find a way to stand out

actually upenn has a higher transfer rate than most high caliber universities, which is unexpected but good news for potential transfers like moi! I'll try to find exact stats. and I definitely agree that I should find a way to stand out but, unfortunately, I'm a pretty mediocre gal. but I really like what I'm doing at the literary agency now, so perhaps I'll pursue something in that vein.

as far as grades go, I recognize that I should have pushed myself to get a higher g.p.a., but I guess I just didn't feel like it....I like school, but don't slave away in a class unless I'm really passionate about it. and transferring was not on the horizon in the very beginning, so I wasn't that focused on the numbers before (though obviously I will be this semester). I also don't think grades always reflect whether or not you will be exemplary in your field--but I also understand that they are a necessary factor in situations like these..

Look up my Official UPenn CAS Transfer thread and keep us updated there. The transfer rate is roughly 16% for CAS (a transfer counselor told me). Best of luck!
