Transferring to USC?

Hey guys so I unfortunalty did not get into my top choice school which was USC. My stats were 3.3 GPA, 35 ACT, strong recommendations, essays, and extracurriculars, a LOT of demonstrated interest. As you can see I obviously didn’t get in because of my relatively low GPA (I had a rough freshman year which ruined my cumulative). I know for sure that I want to transfer next year but I do not know where I should go for my freshman year. I am deciding between Santa Clara and UCSB. Any suggestions on which school would be better if I’m planning to transfer?

My understanding was that USC was more likely to accept students who started at 2-year CC than at other 4-year institutions. You can check with their transfer office to see if that’s still the case. Our D transferred from a CC into USC in 2009.

Did you get your admission decision in the mail @nataliachal ? And do you know your major? I think that will help determine whether UCSB or Santa Clara will be better for you. Those two schools are also GREAT schools btw, I am applying to SCU and they have a great program for my major (Anthro).

@nataliachal They will take you from a 2 year or 4 year. You hear about the 'prefer 2 year" so they don’t appear to pilfer kids from other 4 years institutions. That would appear rude, but it does not matter which one you attend. They do have articulation agreement with SCU that you can google. Go where you want to go and do well there. You may end up loving the school you attend (SCU or UCSB) and not transfer. If you go two year, you give up the 4 year college experience that a freshman can have and the chance to love that four year school. Switching to a cc to please USC would not be a good move imo and makes no difference to them. I have known students that transferred to USC from SCU (not that they don’t from UCSB, I just personally don’t know anyone that goes there, yet transferred…)
btw, I have several at USC and one at SCU if you have any questions…
