I’m looking to transfer as a junior in 2020 from BU. I saw a stat that said that sophomore transfer comprise of about 80 percent of total transfers. Is it disadvantageous to attempt to transfer as a rising junior as opposed to a rising sophomore?
If you feel like your stats are strong, you probably have just as much of a chance as any other applicant. It may be that the sophomore transfer stat is so high because more rising sophomores apply. I think there is also a direct correlation with more 1st year students being dissatisfied with their original college choice, or finding that they wish to pursue a different major than is offered, or were deferred originally and hope that their new academic records will give them a boost. Rising juniors typically have gotten settled in with activities, leadership roles at their current campus, friendships, and are heading into the major course work and therefore less likely to look to transfer (completely opinion and observation - no data to support). If you really want to be at Vanderbilt, apply. It’s the only way to get there! Good luck!
First, why do you want to wait another year to transfer? There is still time to apply for this fall.
I am not sure of the breakdown between soph and junior year transfers, but you may want to reach out to your Vandy AO to discuss what the best application strategy would be. Good Luck
My first semester GPA isn’t really that good due to some personal problems I had going on. I was hoping I could overcome that with a bigger sample size with betyer grades. I think I’ll actually go ahead with contacting my AO. Thanks for the advice guys!
