I am currently a freshman at Saint Joseph's University. Throughout my first semester at SJU i felt very out of place. i do not feel like i belong at that school. I struggled with making friends, and feel that the friends i have now are only friends with me for my roommate. The campus itself is beautiful, and i loved it at first, but then little things started to bother me about it, there are not many food options for one and i have a very strict diet that i can't seem to follow when i am at school (making me get sick in the end).

I plan on applying for transfer to Villanova in the early spring. My parents believe that i should give SJU one more semester of my time before finally deciding what is right for me. I already know what is right for me, and it is sadly not SJU. I do not see myself living here for the next three and a half maybe four 1/2 years.

My questions are simple for those of you who have transferred or who attend Villanova.

If i have a 3.2 GPA for my first semester at SJU is there a chance of me getting into Villanova as a transfer?

How long does the admission process take for transfer students?

How is the Financial Aid offered for transfer students?

I understand that most students are accepted without housing, where are some places i could look into living next year if I were to transfer?

What would i be giving up at SJU if i were to transfer to Villanova, if anything?

I understand what I may be giving up if i were to transfer. But i feel to make myself happier i need to. If any of you have already gone through the transfer process, are you happier at your new school? was it a good decision?

Thank you so much in advance for answering my questions!

I am in the same boat as you. I am also a freshman in college looking to transfer to Villanova for the Fall of 2014. The essential answer to your question lies in which school within Villanova you are looking to transfer into. According to the website, college GPA of 3.0 or higher is recommended in order to be a “competitive” applicant in VSB, A&S, and the School of Nursing whereas a 2.75 GPA is recommended for those looking to transfer into the School of Engineering. However, when I called earlier in the month about transferring into VSB, the lady said that she recommends between a 3.0 and a 3.4 GPA in order to be competitive. Of course, they consider other things too such as your HS GPA, SAT scores, AP classes, ECs, etc. If you could provide me with some other stats beyond your college GPA, I would be able to make a more accurate assessment.

In the event that you applied and were accepted, many transfers opt to be put on the housing wait list for apartments on West Campus which from what I hear are relatively nice. I have also heard that transfer students were being housed in nearby Rosemont College. I am not sure how true this is, but it is something to consider if you are admitted.

Financial aid is awarded the same way it is for first-year applicants. Shortly after you are accepted, you will receive your financial aid package. The application process is on a rolling basis. The deadline is June 1st and everyone except those applying to VSB hear back within two weeks of submitting their application.

I wish you the best of luck with your remaining time at SJU. I also applied to SJU and was awarded a nice merit scholarship but chose to go elsewhere instead because I didn’t think that I would like the people there. Hopefully, everything works out for the best. Feel free to message me with any more questions. Best of luck!
