Hello Everyone,
I am currently a sophomore at Drexel majoring in chemical engineering. After spending a year here, i have decided to transfer out of Drexel. I already applied to Villanova and still waiting for the decision.
I have couple of questions to the current villanova students. I will greatly appreciate any help or comment.
Whenever i tell someone at drexel that i am transferring to villanova, they get surprised because according to them Drexel has a way stronger academics in this region. I am really confused. IS it true?
Also how long it may take to get a decision? And how good is villanova's financial aid?
To me, Drexel has a lot of unnecessary courses(like excel) that takes a long time to graduate. Also I hate the quarter system.
I checked the "student review.com" website and i read all the negative reviews about villanova, although most of them didn't make sense to me.
I visited the campus and i really liked it. at least it is more beautiful and safer than drexel.
I walked around the villanova campus for an hour but unfortunately didn't see anyone like me(I am indian). Thats not a big deal though. My last question is will i fit in a catholic university as an indian and non-christian? Because in those reviews some suggested not to come to villanova if someone is not catholic.
Thank you

Villanova’s College of Engineering has a very good reputation, there are a number of “unnecessary” courses you will need to take (In areas like Religion, Philosophy etc) but these are pretty relaxed discussion-driven classes that most engineers use as an opportunity to pad their GPAs. The downside is there are no Co-ops like Drexel has, but Engineering students usually secure paid internships during sophomore and junior year and get full-time job offers before graduating. I think something like 90% of Engineering students work full-time within 6 months of graduating (Not counting those who go to grad schools right after), which is the same percentage of Business students.

There are a good number of Indian (I’m assuming you mean east-indian, not native american, right?) students on campus. The indian student club on campus is one of the largest and most active student groups on campus, just this past weekend they had an event for an indian holiday where we threw water balloons mixed with food coloring at each other, over a 100 people showed up. they also do an annual cultural show which is advertised as the largest show on campus, and it probably is. everyone at villanova is friendly and well-adjusted, and its rare to find a minority here that feels left out or un-included due to race or religion.

The one thing you will be sacrificing is a party scene. There is no powelton or crossings at villanova (we have “the courts” but those apartment parties dont compare to the ones at crossings), and house parties are pretty far and hard to get rides for. The bar scene is decent, but for an area that has over 20,000 college students from 5 schools nearby, it could be better. But Drexel/Penn are only a 25 minute train ride away.

I’d highly recommend pledging a frat. that’ll be your pass into a great social life and party scene at nova.

Novafrosh, Thanks for the reply. I am still waiting for the decision. I hope, I will get the letter next week.

Where are the better reviews given, Student Review or Cappex?

Finally, got accepted without housing. It looks like getting on campus housing is almost impossible for transfer students. Can anyone give me any suggestion about off-campus housing? Thanks in advance.

Hey! I’m actually in the same boat and just got accepted as a transfer. It looks like theres a lot of options for off campus housing on their website, finding a roommate is the next step. I was going to try to make a facebook group for 2013 transfers so we could all kinda help eachother out and find roomies! if youre interested, lemme know your name on fb and ill add you and try to make the group!

Get on a wait list for campus housing, west campus housing usually has availability that opens up over the summer. I believe some transfers are housed Haverford College ?
Look into home props in bryn mawr for off campus apartment housing.

Hey Laur3n011, I sent you a message. I didnt see any fb group for transfers, so its a good idea to make one. I heard that they use rose mount college dorm for transfer housing. But not sure if they are still using it.

Hey guys, just got accepted today! I also didn’t get housing, but was wondering if anyone made a facebook group yet? It’d be nice if we could try and find roommates for off campus!

Hey hopeful277, Laur3n011 created a facebook group- Villanova transfer fall 2013. I also saw a list of off-campus housing posted by some students in Villanova’s website.

Hey! I also got accepted as a transfer and no housing. I’m currently in philly looking at off-campus options but it’s the finding a roommate part that’s got me stressed out! I searched for the transfers 2013 group on fb but didn’t find it. Any help?

Hey I just wanted to know does anyone know how long it took to get the acceptance response from villanova university after their portal showed that everything was complete.

Mine took about 2.5 weeks to get the acceptance letter.

Thank You rref634
