Transferring to Williams???

For any Williams students out there: what do you like about your school? What about it fires you up and makes you happy to be there? Academics? Extra curriculars? Location? All of the above? None of the above? I'm strongly considering transferring to Williams, but would like to hear some opinions before making my decision.

Also- anyone know anything about alcohol at Williams? I like the occasional drink myself, but from what I've read on student reviews it seems like drinking/partying is the pervasive weekend activity.

Be warned that it is often very difficult to transfer to top LACs like Williams. These are small schools with very little attrition, so only a handful of slots will open up, and the demand for those slots is high. LACs are often much more selective with transfer applicants than with regular applicants.

According to collegeboard, Williams had 184 transfer applicants last year. They accepted only 8, for an acceptance rate of 4.3 %. That's obviously far below their regular acceptance rate of 17 %.

Bowdoin accepted 6 out of 196, for a transfer acceptance rate of 3.1 %. For comparison, Yale's transfer acceptance rate was 3.2 %.

In some years, Middlebury doesn't accept transfer applications at all.

Thanks for your reply!

Any one else out there want to cough up some information???

Amherst is one of the #1-#2 Top LAC in the country and their slots for community college transfer students is very high. Regular transfers from another 4 year institution is about 5-6% and a separate slot for community college transfers open about 1/6 = 17%. If you don't believe me, go look at their site.
