So I am a sophomore chemistry major at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) and I was wondering two things:

How would it look to medical schools if I transferred to a more well known school like UNC-CH, or something to that extent?

Would the process of applying to medical school be more tedious by having to get paper work from both schools, and in general?

I have a 3.7 gpa for freshman year and I'm thinking about transferring for social reasons. TCNj has a pretty good pre-med track for undergrads (85% of students who apply to med school get in), but I'm getting more unhappier each day I stay here.

I don’t think schools look down on folks who transfer particularly if you are doing well in your current program. Plenty of applicants change majors and I’m guessing more than a few change schools at least once (for cost, to get a program not offered at Univ #1, family closer to family, just like the weather better, possible research opportunity at Univ #2, etc)

The best reason for transferring isn’t to increase your chances for Med School or b/c you think school 2 might look better to somebody else, but b/c of your last sentence. There’s no reason to be miserable. College should be a lot of fun and hard work, but make sure the latter comes before the former. Questions you need to answer: do you think you can learn at least as much from the next school, can you get in, and can you afford it. There’s enough time for miserable later on (like the middle of your 12th or 15th on call night of the month during surgery clerkships).

A little more work getting transcripts, but it should not be that much extra work.

2nd warning – Grass in Greener always applies and sometimes you don’t find the warts until the makeup is removed.
