I've just spent my first few days at college. I've started to get the feeling that the college I am currently attending is not the right place for me. As of now, I don't plan on returning after the first semester but I still would like to apply to several schools closer to home as a transfer. I was wondering if its possible/common to apply as a transfer even if you do not complete the second semester of freshman year and if so, is it dependent on the school you apply to? I know that most app deadlines are before second semester starts and that your second semester grades are not a factor in most freshman transfers. I recognize that I may feel very differently than I do a month from now about my uni, but it is still reassuring to know that I am not stuck here for the entire year if I end up truly disliking where I am. Thanks!

Some schools allow second semester freshman transfers. You would just have to check with the schools you’re looking at.

Because your application will be recieved without any college grades, you will be judged as if you were an applying freshman. Basically, if you could have gotten in as a freshman applicant but didn’t apply, they should take you. Naturally you’ll need to have a great reason as to your transfer, but about 10% of most transfer students are underclassmen.

The best thing is that if you dont get in at the semester, you can apply for the next fall season and send them two semesters of work and reapply. It’s hard to transfer after a year because it’s like starting over, which is why i’m applying at the semester as well.

One thing you can do between now and then is retake an ACT/SAT, and see if you cant bump up your score a tad. other than that, it’s basically a coin flip.

Good luck! Hopefully you’ll be successful p.s. where are you now, and where do u want to go, if i may ask?

I was wondering about this too, but how would you work out recommendations?
