Transferring with 2 Ws, opinions?

Hello everyone, and thank you for taking some time to look over my thread!

I am currently a student enrolled in my second semester (and hopefully last) of community college, and I'm trying to transfer out for next Fall of 2014 as a communications or public relations major. At the moment I'm writing out my applications for a few UCs/CSUs (UCLA, UC Davis and possibly CSULB or Cal Poly Pomona), and also some private schools centered around Southern California, like USC.

My overall college gpa is roughly 3.6-3.7 depending on how I do this current semester, and I am nearly IGETC certified as soon as I clear a couple misc. science courses. So the whole catch was that I currently have one W from a Critical Thinking (Philosophy Edition) I took last Spring, and a potential second W for some silly 2 unit, non-UC applicable "Music Business" class that I initially took for fun. Unfortunately I have until the end of next week to decide whether I want to stay in and risk lowering my gpa by receiving something that looks like a C, or dropping it and receiving another W on my transcript.

I've heard some mixed stories about this kind of situation, but I was hoping to get some additional feedback specific to mine. Music Business is clearly not a prerequisite to my major, so which course of action should I take? Would a C (that could potentially affect my overall transcript) be more detrimental, or a W?

W > C

I have 3 W’s on my transcript.

1 or 2 w’s are okay. 3 or more is kind of weary. But thats for privates, UC’s ive heard dont care.

For the record one of my W’s is in Men’s Crew Team. I got a legit story for explaining it.

Try to leave/transfer out of the school with the best GPA possible. It would look very ridiculous to have done 3.6-3.7 GPAs for the entire time and leave with a C. With that said, I’d recommend getting a W rather than the C to “finish on a good note”. Best wishes and good luck!

I had 4 W’s on my transcript and still got accepted to UCB, UCD, UCLA, and CSUSF.

When you apply there is a section to explain stuff like W’s, as long as you have a legit reason, like health issues in my case, you should be fine.

I also transfered with a 3.78, TAP, and TAG.

Don’t stress! They are looking at your overall application. They know Little stuff happens.

Good Luck!

I had three W’s on my transcript and got accepted to a top 5 ivy.
