I got rejected from u of i, and will be attending another big ten school...i was wondering for future reference when the best time to attempt transferring in is...after 1st semester freshmen year, the summer between freshmen and sophomore year, or sometime in sophomore year...also, how well would someone with a 3.2 uweighted highschool gpa and a 29 act have to do to get in

You should likely not attempt before the earliest for beginning of second semester, sophomore year. That would also depend on major because some do not accept mid-year transfers and thus you would have to wait to to try to transfer into junior year.

Transfers are not accepted before beginning of sophomore year. But since you would apply for that in second semester freshman year, you will have at most one semester of college grades to show for that application. The rule is that for such transfers your college grades and your high school record and test scores will be considered for admission and if you were rejected by UIUC for freshman admission that fact is considered and held against you for admission.

Once you have a full year of college grades to present for admission, which you would not have before applying for transfer into second semester, sophomore year, the rule changes, and high school record means almost nothing, you are evaluated based on college grades, and fact you were rejected as a freshman is not considered.

so i should apply after second semester freshmen year so that i would start second semester sophomore year?

btw thanks for replying

For entry into second semester sophomore year, you would apply in September of your first semester sophomore year. That assumes you would be applying for a major that accepts mid-year transfers.

can i apply twice to transfer in if i dont get in the first time?

Yes. If you were, for example, to apply for entry into beginning of sophomore year despite odds against you and are rejected, you can reapply later.

thank you so much

by the sounds of it the odds are very low haha

Also note, since I see from your name that you are interested in engineering, that the engineering college does not take mid-year transfers so best chance of transfer would be into junior year.

even chemical…i looked online but couldnt find whether they did or not

i would try to get into the school as quick as possible and apply to dgs

Actually chem eng does not take transfers into sophomore year and has three programs into which you can transfer and all assume that you will have completed 60 semester hours (meaning entry is into junior year) by time of transfer, see [Transfer Student Frequenly Asked Questions | Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at Illinois](http://chbe.illinois.edu/undergraduate-program/transfer-students/transfer-student-frequenly-asked-questions) and [Transfer Student Programs of Study: Programs A, B, C | Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at Illinois](http://chbe.illinois.edu/undergraduate-program/prospective-students/admissions/transfer/transfer-student-programs-study-progr)
